Amy Hordorf - Age 33 - Kidney
On a cold January night in 1994 I was rushed to the hospital with breathing problems. The emergency room doctors observed that my blood pressure was 240/170 – quite unusual for a 21-year-old woman. The doctors quickly figured out that I was suffering from end-stage renal failure. After a few weeks in the hospital and many tests, the doctors determine that my kidneys were only functioning at 20% of their normal capacity, and by the end of 1994 I would need dialysis to keep me alive. My mother, Diane Holdorf, stepped in and donated her kidney on July 28, 1994.
